Elevators and chair lifts are necessary additions for those who have difficulty navigating stairs. Elevators may also be an indulgence for multi-story homeowners, particularly three story plans and resort plans on columns.
The addition of an elevator, chair lift, or dumbwaiter to one of our standard plans will most certainly require the modification of all major components of the plan package. Elevator shaft design is dependent on car size and configuration as well as choice of power systems. Plans with fold back stairways are best modified for elevators, and straight stairs best for chair lifts. Dumbwaiters require the least room and may fit into most designs.
Our portfolio includes a selection of basement multi-story designs with elevator options included in the plan. These plans may be selected as is or viewed for planning your custom home.
Elevators and other lift devices can be easily added to custom designs and can be surprisingly useful and convenient given the proper application or need. Specifications range from basic single door to mahogany and teak cars with two-sided entry. Power systems are cable, cable over hydraulic, and hydraulic cylinder, the latter being limited to two stop applications. Examples of car and egress may be seen in Design Ideas.
