Window size and materials are governed by building code based on room use, proximity to sources of breakage, and wall height.  For example, bedrooms require at least one window of a minimum movable glazed area for emergency egress.  Tempered safety glass is required in locations within a door swing or the bottom of a stairway.  Conventional windows are required to be a minimum height from the floor.

The windows in our standard plans are double hung vinyl windows with tilt-out double pane insulating glazing, internal grids, and full screens.  Several different grid patterns will be available.  Jamb extensions are used to fully trim the window.  First floor windows are 6 foot high and second floor windows are 5 foot high per plan.  We attempt to use windows in every practical application, so you will see transom windows, fixed pane ornamental windows, and other types of glazing where possible to provide additional natural light.

Adding transoms, half-rounds and arches, side lights, and other treatments to existing windows can dress up a window within structural and code limits.  Please inquire as to the possibility of such additions.

Custom designs will usually include custom windows on front elevations and special applications.  Special glasses, leaded glazing, wood frames, stained glass, the options are too numerous to mention.  Examples are available in our Design Ideas.
